What is a non-invasive ultrasound flow meter?
A non-invasive ultrasonic flowmeter (also known as a clamp-on flowmeter) is a flowmeter that is mounted on the outside of a pipe without any incision or process interruption. The device uses ultrasonic waves that travel through the pipe wall and the fluid to determine the flow rate. Since no contact with the fluid is required, these devices are particularly suitable for aggressive, hot or hygienically sensitive environments.

Operating principle
The non-invasive ultrasonic flowmeter works according to the transit-time method. Two transducers mounted on the outside of the pipe send ultrasonic waves alternately upstream and downstream. The time difference between the propagation of the two waves is proportional to the flow velocity. In this way, it is possible to accurately calculate the volumetric flow without coming into contact with the fluid itself.

Advantages of non-invasive ultrasound flow meters
- Installation on the outside of the pipe – no process interruption
- No contact with liquid – suitable for aggressive media
- High measurement accuracy (0.5-2%)
- Suitable for existing pipes without reconstruction
- Low installation and operating costs
- Suitable for pipe diameters DN15-DN6000
- Ability to measure in both directions

Fields of application
Non-invasive ultrasonic flow meters are widely used in the energy and heat industry sectors, the oil and gas industry, water supply systems, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as wherever inspection or mobile measurement is required in a continuous process.
Industrial sectors
Energy and heat industry, oil and gas industry, water supply and treatment, chemical industry, pharmaceutical production, mobile and verification measurement.
